A tale of two cities

Simile: There was a steaming mist in all the hollows, and it had roamed in its forlornness up the hill, like an evil spirit, seeking rest and finding none. Metaphor: "'Doctor, they are very proud, these Nobles; but we common dogs are proud too, sometimes.? Foreshadowing: Along the Paris streets, the death-carts rumble, hollow and harsh. Six tumbrils carry the day's wine to La Guillotine. All the devouring and insatiate Monsters imagined since imagination could record itself, are fused in the one realisation, Guillotine. William Faulker once said, ?I decline to accept the end of man? I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance?? The quote claims that humans reject defeat and will prevail despite many hardships. Ernest Hemmingway?s story The Old Man and the Sea, Elie Wiesel?s Night, and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Old man and the sea: He is often cramped and injured yet he still tries for the fish. His endurance allows for him to triumph Night: Despite the horrible events Elie went through (such as the extreme lack of food and seeing gruesome events such as babies being shot) he prevailed and went on to live his life.

Lady Macbeth

My impressions of Lady Macbeth are that she seems very feisty and ruthless. Besides being married to Macbeth, she seems to be his partner in crime. This is supported by her determination to have him kill king Duncan so that he can become king. She is very power-hungry and is using her husband to get that power. It reveals that there is an eerie, occult tone throughout the rest of the play and that the witches are going to cause trouble. The weather is stormy and foggy which reflects the corrupt and selfish thoughts in the rest of the act. It seems like a dark play. It gives him a taste of power but no way to actually grasp it.

Contrasting Twelve Angry Men to Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry By: Oscar C Carrillo The characters in these books have to face their responsibilities to right injustices or wrongdoing. In Twelve Angry Men and Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry, the characters frequently face prejudiced opinions and threats of harm in many ways. Socioeconomic prejudice takes place in both books because of judgments and prejudices against the lower class because of their socioeconomic status. Both books also contain struggles of inherent power. However, in Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry most struggles are due to racism, which is not the case in Twelve Angry Men. In both these books the main theme is how characters have to figure out how to face their responsibilities to right these injustices
