A war within myself The hardest thing I?ve ever had to do was not climb Mount Everest, or sail across the Atlantic. The hardest thing I?ve ever had to do was simply survive myself. And trust me, it has not been easy. I know that doesn?t sound very hard, people struggle to survive every day. But most don?t have to survive with the Devil hiding beneath their bones. Most don?t have to survive with demons controlling their every thought. My life has been consumed by darkness, and the biggest challenge I have ever faced has been being at a constant war with myself.

Survival Scenarios We should all remain calm and assess the situation at hand. Help will arrive in three days and we need to survive until then without anybody getting hurt or lost. I will urge the group to have a discussion about what should we do to get food and water. Having limited supplies of food and water, we would ration it out and distribute fairly. Everybody will have a responsibility, 2 people will search for food, 1 person will look for water, 2 people will get wood, 1 will try to make fire, and 1 will stay at the location where everybody has to meet. We should be able to get through all the three days easily if we all do our part.

Isaac Yi Ms. McKenzie Realistic Fiction December 2, 2014 Three Simple Words Although seven straight years have passed, I have not forgotten my mistake. Although seven straight years have passed, I still hate popularity. Although seven straight years have passed, I cannot say three simple words to a person, no matter how much I want to. I know I?m a fool, and I shouldn't have been so conceited. This is my story that I will remember and regret for life. The blazing setting sun, warmed me as mobs of children swarmed me, hugging and waving goodbye. I couldn't believe that I had to move away forever, leaving all my friends, the warm heat of Miami, and most importantly, my popularity. I would have to start fresh, although I did not wish to.

William Faulker once said, ?I decline to accept the end of man? I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance?? The quote claims that humans reject defeat and will prevail despite many hardships. Ernest Hemmingway?s story The Old Man and the Sea, Elie Wiesel?s Night, and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Old man and the sea: He is often cramped and injured yet he still tries for the fish. His endurance allows for him to triumph Night: Despite the horrible events Elie went through (such as the extreme lack of food and seeing gruesome events such as babies being shot) he prevailed and went on to live his life.

Freedom My name is Walter, and I was born a slave in North Carolina. Now, I am in Virginia.. I?d been working in tobacco fields since I was a boy. Planting? harvesting...binding and stacking. Backbreaking work, sunup to sundown. I slept in a wooden cabin with three other slaves, a boy named John, the mother: Jackie and her daughter; Lindsay. I slept on an old hay mattress on the floor for a bed. Next to the bed, there was a chair that had a candle as our only light source. There was never any privacy. The master of the house was named Jim. Master Jim didn?t do one thing in the house. He explained ?you Negro?s do everything I ask of you, no ifs, buts, or what?s!? We had to comply or we would get a whipping of a life time.

9/11/12 Comp 1 Hanging by a Rope Trying new things used to scare me. Sometimes I would lie awake at night, worrying about the future. One example of my fear happened a few years ago. My family, along with a few friends, had decided to go on a zip line. At the time when we had planned the trip, I acted as excited as everyone else, but secretly I was scared. ?You ready for the zip line?? my one friend asked. ?Sure,? I replied, unconvincingly. A thirty foot tower loomed over us. The rotting, rickety wood made the whole concept even more unnerving. Shadows from the surrounding trees fell around me and gave the tower an eerie look. ?I don?t know about this,? another friend worried.
