The first thing we must see about man is that he is not an isolated unit independent of others but is rather a social being bound to other men by a web of relationships, from the beginning of life to its end. 1. It would be strange if God, having made man with a social nature, should ignore this fact in religion. A religion that was purely an individual matter of a personal relationship with God would be no religion fitting for man since it would leave a major aspect of human life outside of the relationship with God. A social being needs a social religion.
