Light/Dark Imagery ? One of the play?s most consistent visual motifs is the contrast between light and dark, often in terms of night/day imagery. This contrast is not given a particular metaphoric meaning?light is not always good, and dark is not always evil. On the contrary, light and dark are generally used to provide a sensory contrast and to hint at opposed alternatives Personification occurs when an inanimate object or concept is given the qualities of a person or animal. Female Characters in Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth William Shakespeare is generally considered an avant-garde writer with progressive ideas about gender. Because of the era in which he wrote, the women in his plays generally had to be wives, servants, or a woman of some type of ill repute. But an examination of the female characters of three of his major tragedies shows that though these women may have been secondary to the men in their lives, they were still complex, round characters and deserving of as much attention and analysis as their male counterparts.

However, as the play continues Juliet changes into a mature, compassionate woman. Karina Kurudimov Mr. Simmons H English 9 13 May 2011 The Diversity of Love Romeo and Juliet is tragedy by William Shakespeare that is about a pair of lovers whose parents were enemies. By the end of the play Romeo and Juliet ended up taking their own lives just to be with each other. After the couple killed themselves their families finally ended their feud and agreed to live in peace since their hate for each other cost them the lives of their only children. This play teaches the valuable lesson that young and impetuous love can lead to disaster. Throughout the play there is three main different types of love portrayed: the cynical love of Mercutio and the Nurse, the unrequited love between Romeo and Rosaline, and the true love between Romeo and Juliet.

This was said by William Shakespeare, also the author of Romeo and Juliet. It is clear that Shakespeare believes fate drives people's lives; people do not control their own destinies. In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, free will does not affect fate; destiny cannot be changed and is symbolized by several motifs in the play.

I n the streets of Verona another brawl breaks out between the servants of the feuding noble families of Capulet and Montague. Benvolio, a Montague, tries to stop the fighting, but is himself embroiled when the rash Capulet, Tybalt, arrives on the scene. After citizens outraged by the constant violence beat back the warring factions, Prince Escalus, the ruler of Verona, attempts to prevent any further conflicts between the families by decreeing death for any individual who disturbs the peace in the future.
