1/10/13 1 Wind Energy By Tatiana Cherne, Dean Koman, Peter Schott What is wind and how can it be captured? Wind - flows of air created by the difference in solar heating of the earth between the equator and the poles together with the earth's rotation *Blades of the turbine harness the wind to create rotational energy* *A generator then transforms the energy into electricity* 1/10/13 2 Potential Global - Capturing 1/5 of the wind energy at the best sites could generate more than 7X the amount of electricity currently used - Possible to phase out non-renewable energy by the end of the century (coal burning and nuclear) United States - Wind farms operate in 36 states generating 1% of the country?s electricity - Lead by Texas and California

2/21/13 2:31 PM Scientists don?t just study genes, they also study whole chromosomes by using images of chromosomes stained during metaphase Karyotype- pairs of homologous chromosomes arranged in decreasing size to produce a micrograph Telomeres Telomeres- chromosome s end in protective caps, these caps consist of DNA associated with protiens The telomere also might be involved with aging and caner Nondisjunction Cell division during which sister chromatids fail to separate properly, this can take place during meiosis I or meiosis II One form two kinds of gametes result One has an extra one and one is missing one Organisms with an extra chromosome can survive but those lacking one usually do not Monosomy- lacking a chromosome in humans don?t usually survive

Tenzin Kyizom English 1A Dr. Loretta Kane 08/31/2012 Summary The Twitter Trap by Bill Keller is about how digital innovations have altered the way humans think and how it may be ?eroding characteristics that are essentially human.? Bill Keller claims social networks outsources the brain and is an ?aggressive? distraction. His main thesis is that these digital innovations come with a price and that price may be us humans. The price we pay to use technology is having us go through the easier way but our brains don?t function well and pick up patterns that are usually evident. It also reduces our ability to connect with others and reflect on our lives.

Jessica Brooks 1-31-2013 AP Psych p.3 Chapter 7A Notes Introduction: Memories are what make us Memory: Information that is stored and has stayed over a period of time Just regular people have the ability to remember amazing things Some could remember parts of images shown 17 years earlier Information Processing Model: takes after a computer ? 3 parts Encoding: How information gets into our brain Storage: How we hold onto the information or store it like a hard drive Retrieval: How we get the information back from our brain like in computer files Connectionism: Another theory to how our memories work, which states that memories are made of interconnected neural networks, and memories are made of three stages Brief sensory memory like a quick image shown and then fading away
