Language Defined Organized system of spoken words by which people communicate with one another with mutual comprehension (Getis, 1985). Languages subtly gradate one to another. Dialects and other regional differences may eventually lead to incomprehensibility - a new language. Migration and Isolation explain how a single language can later become two or more. Terms used in the study of language Language ? tongues that cannot be mutually understood Dialects ? variant forms of a language that have not lost mutual comprehension A speaker of English can understand the various dialect of the language A dialect is distinctive enough in vocabulary and pronunciation to label its speaker Some 6,000 languages and many more dialects are spoken today Terms used in the study of language

Minimalism centers around narratives which tend to pare down a story to its bare essence, avoiding lengthy description or complexity of plot in favor of a more simplistic representation of character and conflict. Identify examples within "Cathedral" that demonstrate that this is a Minimalist text. Make sure that your answer is original (not identical to a previous answer).

DANGLING AND MISPLACED MODIFIERS PROFESSOR KNOWLES? 3RD PERIOD ENGLISH CLASS DANGLING MODIFIERS Dangling Modifiers are words or phrases which ?dangle? because they have no word in the sentence to describe. For Example: While taking a shower, the doorbell rang. Why is this wrong? Dangling Modifier DANGLING MODIFIERS CONTINUED? The modifier didn?t have anything to modify in the sentence. One of the correct answers this sentence is? While I was taking a shower, the door bell rang. TIPS ON FIXING DANGLING MODIFIERS By adding a noun or pronoun that is describing who actually did it: While I was taking a shower, the doorbell rang. OR While taking a shower, I heard the doorbell ring. A MISPLACED MODIFIER is placed too close to some other word that it does not want to modify.
