The author's purpose was to put in writing many stories and myths about Gilgamesh which had been handed down verbally, and in doing so, created for us, the oldest known document giving us a look into Sumerian culture? 3- Where: Where was the document created? The story was created in Sumeria as a combination of 5 earlier stories about Gilgamesh who was an actual person who lived around 2800 BCE and was a king and ruler of Uruk

Egyptian Notes  AP World History     “The Gift of the Nile:” This phrase first coined by the Greek historian Herodotus is  quite fitting as no other society on the earth in human history has been as dependent  on one geographical feature as the Egyptians were the Nile.  In fact history has  shown us (see link) that Egyptian history is dependent on the flooding cycle of the  Nile.  Seasons of high flooding in which the Nile overflows her banks and leaves a  hyper‐fertile layer of silt over the otherwise barren landscape provides Egypt with  her periods of high development and sees her flourish as a civilization.  Those  periods where the Nile either doesn’t flood or engages in flooding that is excessive

World History 10.2 Notes Muhammad?s Successors Spread Islam Muhammad had not named a successor or instructed his followers how to choose one. The Muslim community elected Abu-Bakr as the first caliph Rightly Guided Caliphs Abu-Bakr, Umar Uthman, and Ali were known as the rightly guided caliphs. Their rule was called a caliphate After M?s death tribes on Arabian Peninsula abandoned Islam, and others refused to pay taxes. A few individuals declared themselves prophets. Used military to keep people in order- this developed effective mobile army When AB died the Muslim state controlled all of Arabia Under Umar- conquered Syria and lower Egypt, and parts of Persian Empire Next 2 conquered further westward and eastward and gained the military support of the conquered lands

He and his successors consolidated control over Anatolia, fought Christian enemies in Greece and in the Balkans, captured Serbia and the Byzantine capital of Constantinople, and established a general border with Iran. 2. Egypt and Syria were added to the empire in 1516–1517, and the major port cities of Algeria and Tunis voluntarily joined the Ottoman Empire in the early sixteenth century. Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent (r. 1520–1566) conquered Belgrade (1521) and Rhodes (1522) and laid siege to Vienna (1529), but withdrew with the onset of winter.
