The United States of America was founded and held together using compromises to help keep all parties involved in a particular conflict satisfied. This continued through the time period from 1820 to 1860. However, by 1860, the increasing tension surrounding the issue of slavery made continued use of compromise seem impossible. The numerous conflicts and disagreements involved with slavery divided the North and the South and eventually caused a complete collapse in the possibility of compromise.

Name of Compromise Brief Background Brief Background on the Resolution Compromise’s Significance Great Compromise (1787) Arose from conflicting views toward the Virginia and New Jersey Plan. Argument was centered around the number of representatives required from each state. Formed bicameral legislature which consisted of a Senate and a House of Representatives. Each state was granted 1 representative per 30,000 individuals Played a huge role in the formation of the current United States parliamentary structure and called for proportional representation
