Gary Collins Chapter 1 Review Politics is the means by which people of a group make decisions that affect themselves and others. Politics is most associated with government; a government is an organization which makes decisions for and operates a society. In order for the decisions of the government to be enforced the government must establish authority, and a society members? acceptance of a government?s authority is called legitimacy. The two original purposes of government are to maintain a state of peace and security known as order and ensure the Liberties of the members of its society.
