So far the official name of Mexico has been the United Mexican States. Then on Thursday, November 22nd, Mexican President Felipe Calderon sent a letter to Mexico?s Congress requesting the country?s name be changed to just Mexico. Its currently official name, the United Mexican States, was heavily influenced by our American War of Independence when we decided on the United States of America, and over the course of 200 years Mexico has finally decided to make its own statement.
