Great Britain, France, and Russia had been recognized as the great powers long before the industrial age. Russia began industrializing in the late 19th century, as did Germany, the US and Japan. The US rise to power was covered in Chapter 23; this Chapter (26) will cover the other great powers of the late 19th century.
