Kite Runner Quote Analysis Character: Amir Quote: ?America was different. America was a river, roaring along, unmindful of the past. I could wade into this river, let my sins drown to the bottom, let the waters carry me someplace far. Someplace with no ghosts, no memories, and no sins." Context: This quote begins the new stage in Amir?s life when he moves to the United States. Significance: America was not just a window of opportunity for Amir. He viewed the country as a refuge from his past memories and hoped that the ?American river? will wash him free of his sins. Character: Amir Quote: ?My body was broken ? just how badly I wouldn?t find out until later ? but I felt healed. I laughed.?

(Amir can?t even think about his past because he didn?t stand up for his friend and whenever his character is brought up he hates himself because he?s a coward. He also looks for forgiveness because he feels responsible for his mother?s death) The past will always come back.- Throughout the book Amir tries to forget his past but it always comes back to haunt him. Hassan?s rape, not getting along with his dad, and running away from even silly children fights.
