Parrot In The Oven chapter 3 was thought provoking. It displayed how racism or discrimination can cause one to have pity on others, and it also showed how these factors can change the way some people treat others. In this chapter, Manny is waiting for the bus after school when his teacher, Mr. Hart, offers him a ride. Manny wants to take the bus, but Mr. Hart insists, so he stays. The teacher scribbles something on a scrap of paper and they go inside the school. Mr. Hart then shows him what he had written down, ?Give the Hernandez Boy $20?, and tells him he will need money for school supplies if he is going to a new school. Manny told him that he had money earlier and Mr. Hart was even uncomfortable giving it to him, but he still did. Mr.
