Ar?Reon Watson Reaction Paper 10/6/2012 Alexis Tocqueville: From Democracy in America In 1831, French aristocrat, Tocqueville took an approach towards studying a social and political event going on in America; American democracy. A man that seemed to be very fond of America came to talk about studying preceding history, ?The New World? without aristocracy, and the love a democracy in America has for equality. America was the only country he saw the growth of society and its influences on the ?New world? and its people. With democracy comes equality and it is a principle in which people revert to individualism, when they all want to have wealth and property. Tocqueville talked about saving the nations freedom, as it wasn?t being used.
