PERSIAN Chart AP World History Culture/Civilization: Southeast Asia Date: POLITICAL Leaders, Elites State Structure War Diplomacy, Treaties Courts, Laws -First large states emerged in early C.E. centuries in response to position of SE Asia being crossroads for trade and travel between India and China. -First major state was Funan. -Funan dominated isthmus of Kra. -Decline of Funan may be related to opening of new trade routes bypassing them. -Srivijayan political system combined four ecological zones and their rules under the Srivijayan king. (Musi River, upland Sumatran interior, river ports, fertile rice lands of central Java)

PERSIAN Chart AP World History Culture/Civilization: Rome Date: 9/11/10 POLITICAL Leaders, Elites State Structure War Diplomacy, Treaties Courts, Laws -Rome was ruled by seven kings between 753 B.C.E. and 507 B.C.E. (according to legend) -Kingship was eliminated when representatives of the senate overthrew the last king and created a republic. -Centers of political power = Roman Senate. -Senate made the laws and governed. -A Roman family consisted of different generations (and domestic slaves) living under the oldest living male, the paterfamilias.

PERSIAN Chart AP World History Culture/Civilization: India Date: POLITICAL Leaders, Elites State Structure War Diplomacy, Treaties Courts, Laws -Mauryan Empire founded by Chandragupta and he expanded empire himself w/ successors Bindusara and Ashoka until it included entire subcontinent. -Legend has it that a Machiavellian Brahmin guided Chandragupta -Ashoka converted to Buddhism after he was shaken by carnage in brutal wars in the south. Buddhist gov?t policies stored in edicts inscribed on rocks and pillars. -Mauryan empire collapsed in 184 B.C.E. and northern India fell to political fragmentation including rule of Shakas, Scythians, and Kushans. -Andrha dynasty established state in Deccan.
