Overall, does King Afonso of Kongo consider his kingdom?s relationship with Portugal positive or negative? What?s the evidence for your conclusion? It is overall negative because he feels that Portugal is threatening the security and peace of his kingdom. Alfonso begins with a respective tone of voice and affirmation to the Portuguese leader before chastising his actions. It is a touchy subject because the trading connections that Portugal provides to Kongo is very important, yet on the other hand the Portuguese influence has been detrimental in other ways to the people of Alfonso?s kingdom.
