By: 2/15/2011 Period: 1 HbS disease Hemoglobin S disease Sickle cell disease (SCD) Sickle cell disorder Genetic disorder Recessive Chromosome 11 If both parents are carriers 25% but if one parent has the disease the chance of getting it rises to 50% Low blood count Random pains (particularly in abdomen) Dactylitis (swelling of hands or feet) seizures extreme paleness Increasing fatigue shortness of breath or trouble breathing numbness or tingling severe headaches or dizziness painful erection (males only) Inability to move body parts Changes in vision slurring of speech Delayed puberty/growth Ulcers Whiteness in eyes All 50 states test newborns for the sickle cell trait, during newborn screening.
