Her Roman equivalent is the goddess Venus. *models of beauty and love APOLLO: Greek god of light and the sun, truth and prophecy, healing, plague, music, poetry, and more. *to be in association with Apollo means to be a physically perfect male. ARCADIA: A mountainous region in Greece which was inhabited (and supposedly the birthplace) by Pan, the god of the forrest, as well as his dyrads, nymphs, other spirits of nature, and shepherds. *refers to a vision of farming/raising livestock and harmony with nature, or a utopia.

1. Title- Proserpine Artist-Dante Gabriel Rossetti Year of Creation-1874 2. This painting was inspired the by myth of the rape of the goddess Proserpine. 3. Proserpine, also known as Persephone was the daughter of the god Zeus, the supreme ruler of the dwelling place of the gods, Mount Olympus, and the goddess Ceres, also known as Demeter. Demeter was the goddess of the harvest. She watched over the grain, the fertility of the earth, the seasons, and the harvest. She also presided over marriage sanctity, sacred law, and the cycle of life and death. She and her daughter Persephone were the central figures of the Eleusinian Mysteries.
