The United States has been accustomed to assuming that the American Revolution provided an example that third world countries should follow today. And yet, the histories of other nations have been so different from that of the US; 3,000 miles separated America from her mother country giving the American military a significant advantage against Britain. Distance leading to salutary neglect allowed the colonies to grow into self sufficient societies making America’s Revolution more of an evolution. It is important to recognize how exceptional the American Revolution was.
