Help with Roosevelt Corollary essay?

Okay, tomorrow I have the essay portion of a test on chapters 27,28 and parts of 29/30. My essay choices are...

"Hypothesis: the basic goal of every nations foreign policy is to act in its own best self interest. Therefore, one can analyze the behavior of a nation in any situation and determine the course of action which will be taken.

Your Task: Choose one of the following and analyze the decisions in foreign policy made by the leaders of the United States. Explain the decisions made in light of the times and defend (or reject!) the hypothesis stated above.

  1. The Annexation of the Philippines
  2. Negotiation + building of the Panama Canal
  3. The Roosevelt Corollary
  4. The Open Door Policy

Put into a historical context (addressing major events)"

So thats my topic. I was going to do the Roosevelt Corollary because it seemed like there would be a lot of information on it. But I'm terrible at writing APUSH essays, so I was hoping someone could help me out a little with this? Just a basic idea of what I should address or just a few pointers would be nice.
