Versailles;it was an elaborate palace built by the order of King Louis XIV, the main purpose was to basically entertain the nobles of France and over awe ambassadors from other European countries, the French Noble were allowed to live at the palace for free in return they gave up their power.

That frederick is NOT the great elector. Frederick William I is.

Versailles was important in that it basically brought the nobility to its knees. When Louis was a child, the fronde (the french nobility rebellion) tried to murder him, and this kinda inspired him to do this. The nobility were trapped in Versailles. They thought that the only way to get up in rank was to please the king by being there, even though he had no intention of letting any of them be his equal. If they weren't part of the Versailles crowd, they weren't anyone important. Versailles also symbolized the frivolity of the French monarch. They wasted so much of their money on Versailles, and Louis was a pretty useless king in contrast to those monarchs of the enlightened age. But Louis ruled with an iron fist there, and kept the nobles in check.
