What is needed?

Hi I am a junior in high school, and was wondering, what is needed/reccomended to major in something medical, like a pediatrician or something.

My freshmen year GPA: 3.00, average in my eyes

My sophomore year GPA: 2.16, i dont kno what happened soph more year, i became stupid and lazy so fast.

So far junior year seems to be going by alright, APUSH is sort've hard to keep up with.

I am pretty sure with my current state I will not be able to became a pediatrician, but was wondering, are their any jobs out their that anyone might know about that pay well and are fairly fun?

Main reason I want to be a pediatrician in the first place is for my parents.

But im not sure if that is what I really want to do. I like the idea of being a pediatrician, you get respect, paid well, get to work with kids, but is it something I can do for my whole life? I'm not sure yet.

Im just not sure what I am going to be in life, and im a junior, and I feel like im running out of time to decide:confused:

Well, while you don't have a ton of time, you have at least another year and a half to decide on a college. And even if you still don't know, there's still another year or two to try some classes at college. But I can tell you that if you want to get a job that pays well, you're probably gonna need to pull up your GPA. As to what's fun, well that's completely up to you. Some people, like me, think that being in a lab mixing chemicals is tremendous fun. Other people think that playing sports for a living is great. I suggest that you look at lots of different schools and majors. You're guidance cousellor should be able to help you with all that, and if not I might could dig out some nice websites.

Thank you very much for replying. I am very sure that this year I can get my GPA up, so far I have two known A's, APUSH is probably a low C at best right now.

Some interests I do have is electronics, video games (what guy doesnt?), traveling, helping other people out, can't think of many though. Well thanks once again for posting, i'll try and do a google search to look for careers, hard thing though is starting.

Oh, I have one more question, anything necessary to take in highschool for med-school?

Here are my list of classes for this year

AP US History
Honors English 11
Spanish II
Multimedia ROP
Algebra II
Honors Chemistry

I was thinking for senior year to stop taking math, this will greatly improve my GPA since math is one of my weakpoints. I will probably take a AP class in science rather than History or English since science is more medical related. Would it be necessary to take Spanish III, Spanish II is already getting difficult.

You could perhaps become an electrical engineer or computer engineer, those jobs usually pay well, but they do require lots of math courses. But you may find that you like something you never would have considered. There's still time to find out, and if you're not sure, then go to a college/university that offers lots of majors and you might find one you like. I'll dig up the websites I have for careers and colleges and such.

Nothing's really required for med-schools in general, although some schools have recommended courses that they would have liked for you to have taken. As to the Spanish, I think you'll probably be fine with only two years. Next year you should be taking economics/government, English, and an AP science (I highly recommend Biology if you aren't understanding Chemistry. There's a lot less math involved and I can predict that physics won't work out too well for you). I suggest that you keep going with math. I know it might be hard, but it's good to have taken 4 math classes in high school. Then you can take a computer class, and if you decide not to take Spanish, then you've got one more class you can use. If you can't think of any class that you would like, I suggest applying to be an aid at your school. It's a period where you run errands for various office members/teachers, but for the most part it should be kinda like a free study period.

Now, if you need any help in any subject, feel free to contact me. I'm willing to help you with whatever I know (which is basically all of your classes except maybe multimedia, I'm not sure what that is). Just send me a PM or an e-mail at [email protected]" class="bb-email">[email protected] or an im on AIM for pianogirl2422.

Good Luck!
