Test taking tips

Here are some test taking tips that may be helpful.

1. Know the format of the test ahead of time. For example, is it going to be multiple choice, free response, essay?
2. Ask your teacher if there is a penalty for guessing on multiple choice tests. If there is not, make sure you answer every question.
3. Always make sure you get enough rest the day before the test. Showing up to your test tired will make it hard for you to concentrate and do well on your test.
4. Study, study, study. The only way to do well on tests is to study.
5. If you are taking a essay test, make sure you brainstorm and write an outline before you write your essay. Doing so will make your essay more focused and easier to read.
6. If you get to a hard question, don’t panic. Just skip it and go on to the easier questions. One question unanswered is not going to hurt.
7. If you don’t know the answer on a multiple choice question, guess smart! Eliminate the choices you know that are wrong and pick the choice out of the remaining ones that you think is correct.
8. Ask your teacher for practice problems. They will probably be happy to give you some.
9. If your teacher allows you to use notes on the test, then bring them. Often teachers give open note tests to see how well you have been taking notes.
10. If studying is hard for you, then try a study group. Just make sure that your group does more studying than talking.
11. Do not wait till the last minute to study for the test. It never works.
Finally, relax and be confident. If you have studied hard, then you shouldn’t be worrying about getting a bad score.
