Summer And School Work: Oh My

Summer is every teens wish. It is when you are free from school for about 3 months or more. No more work that you have to do. No teachers, no cafeteria, no stress, no nothing. Just a hot sunny day and no school work or homework to do. Heaven right? Wrong. Don’t forget the summer reading and the summer work. Just when you thought that you were free. On top of that you have to look at colleges.

A suggestion: For your summer reading, try reading 5 pages every day until you finish your books. If you want to finish it faster read 10 pages a day. While you’re reading take notes so that you won’t forget the content of the book. You don’t want to procrastinate reading the books because sooner or later it would back fire on you especially when school officially starts.

You would more or less likely have a test or essay or project to do right after school starts. Reading the books is especially beneficial to you so that you can ace the test/essay/project and start off with a good grade of the year.

For your summer work, try doing a little work each day. You can also try setting a day each week specifically when you would work on your summer work. Then the rest of the week would be available for you to relax or make plans. Like summer reading, procrastinating would definitely back fire.

Start looking at colleges when school gets out or now if you haven’t. Looking now would better prepare you to choose the colleges you want to apply to. Therefore, you would be ahead of the game. Knowing which colleges you want would make it easier for you write your essays and submit your application on time.

Since you have the time now over the summer to look at colleges first hand, start booking college tours. I strongly recommend that you don’t book tours over the school year unless they’re close to home because you won’t be able to travel much. Invite your parents along because they would most likely ask questions that you would forget to ask. Hint: don’t think of college tours as a chore. Think of them as a vacation from home.

In the long run, you would be glad that you had done these during your summer in which it would make your school year and senior year extremely less stressful.
