Money these days is tight and difficult to come by. Many of us teens are finding it difficult to find jobs since we are competing with adults who have work experience on the resume. Therefore it makes buying gas for the car or other items like clothes, electronics, etc extremely difficult if you have to pay for everything yourself. Nobody wants to be in a situation like that. Here are some tips:
• Find a job. That’s a pretty obvious solution. But don’t search for any job; find a company that is prone to hiring young employees. Even better is a company that doesn’t require much from you to be hired. Go to your local supermarket. Usually employees working there are teens. Here is a suggestion, do not be picky about the type of work you can find. As long as you are making money and working then you shouldn’t complain. You can be picky only if you are working at this job full time.
• Find volunteer opportunities. Even if you don’t have any work experience, having volunteer work is a major plus. Most companies also look for this on top of your work experience. Your volunteer work shows employers that you can be responsible and at least have some experience with working with a team or under a manager. Volunteer at your local hospital or animal shelter.
• Find internship opportunities. These internships are also beneficial to your work resume. The internships demonstrate that you are an able person who can work under pressure and with a team.
• Get a savings account. Start saving your money in a savings account. It’s better to save money in this account than putting all your money in your wallet. You can guarantee that your money would steadily increase over time in a savings account as a result of interest. The interest might not be much but its still free money in your pocket.
While you’re looking for all of these opportunities, remember that these opportunities are a major plus for your college resume. Colleges love to see extracurricular activities from their prospective students. With these, you are one step closer to getting into college.
