The United States of America can be found on the continent of North America in both the northern and western hemispheres. The United States is border by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. The United States and Canada share the largest undefended border in the world. The eastern part of the United States is separated from Canada by the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes; while the Rio Grande River divides southern U.S. state of Texas from Mexico. The Atlantic Ocean is off east coast, the Pacific Ocean is off the west coast, and the Gulf of Mexico makes up the remaining part of the United States southern border not occupied by Mexico.
