United States History Study Guide: Fall, 2013-2014 Final (165 Points) The test will be predominately multiple-choice, but with some matching & brief short answer. Jamestown through the Mexican War (August 26-November 18, 2013): 1. Jamestown: a settlement located 60 miles from the mouth of the James River. Colonists founded the settlement. 2. Mercantilism: the act of a country trying to keep as much gold and silver as possible. The colonies provided England with tobacco, fur, and lumber in return for gold and silver. 3. Starving Time: crops were killing people because of disease-invested water and the English did not know how to handle winter, but the Native Americans helped them.
