I. Conquest by the Cradle-
By 1775 the population numbered 2.5 million people and 90 percent lived as rural farmers.
- Americans were multiplying well; the average age to have a kid was 16.

America was a melting pot including of Germans (6%) who settled in Pennsylvania, and Scots-Irish (7%).
- Most of the population (95%) was cooped up east of the Alleghenies

The Scots-Irish over many decades had reached America and became squatters.
- They were good frontiers men but lawless and individualistic.
