AP Biology-Chapter 6-8 Vocabulary
Subject:
Biology [1]
1) Chromosome: have genes in the form of DNA (Chapter 6) 2) Eukaryotic cell: chromosomes are contained in a membrane-enclosed organelle, the nucleus. (Chapter 6) 3) Integrin: intrinsic membrane proteins that span the membrane and bind on their cytoplasmic side to proteins attached to microfilaments of the cytoskeleton (Chapter 7) 4) Prokaryotic cell: the DNA is concentrated in the nucleoid without a membrane separating it from the rest of the cell. (Chapter 6) 5) Active transport: Some transport proteins can move solutes across membranes against their concentration gradient, from the side where they are less concentrated to the side where they are more concentrated. This active transport requires the cell to expend metabolic energy. (Chapter 7)
