When you are applying for college you need to keep in mind that you only have one chance to make a good first impression. That said, it is very important to make sure that the application you send in is adequately filled out and that it highlights all of your strong suits. In short, there is no reason to hold back on your college application. It is a place where you can brag about your past accomplishments. Think about it like this- other people are doing it and you do not want to get left behind.

The bottom line is that you cannot tell everything about a school just by looking at the college publication. In fact, you cannot tell near about a college just by reading this material. The best thing for you to do if you are interested in a college is to set the time aside and go take a visit. Now, I understand that this is usually easier said than done. What if I play a sport in high school and we are in season? What if the college I want to attend is 500-miles away? These are all things that come up- you cannot let them stop you from visiting.

Let’s face it- applying to and getting accepted into college can be a stressful situations. After all, there are several things that can happen in addition to getting accepted. In order to be prepared for one of these other situations it is a good idea to know how they could apply for you. The fact of the matter is that unless you are super qualified for the college that you are applying for you may not get in right away. If this happens to you there may still be a chance that you get accepted after all- just make sure you know what the circumstances are.

Exam time is notorious for the amount of pressure that it puts on students. The exams are often worth 25% or more of the course, and if that weren’t enough, many colleges and universities base your acceptance on your exam results, particularly your SAT’s. Once high school is done most students appreciate the fact that they won’t have to endure exams again. Then, come college or university, they find the pressure to be even more intense than it was in high school.

It doesn’t take a poorly-acted high school movie to point out the academic pressure that high school and university students are under. Mid-term exams, SAT’s, college entrance exams, finals, challenge exams… they’re all seemingly nothing more than ways for the average student to spend a few weeks stressing out every year.

Obtaining a job as a student is a difficult task, and it is made to be an even greater challenge when you consider that most students don’t have extensive experience or qualifications. Your typical high school student might have some related classes or volunteering experience, but that’s generally about it- not exactly the stellar resume that one hopes to be able to submit with an application.
