My teacher gave us a prompt and I've got a basic outline for it, but I just cannot think of a good enough thesis!
The prompt's
"During the 'Reign of Jackson', politics became more democratic, the power of the Presidency increased, America became more optimistic and expansionic, and sectionalism supplanted nationalism."
Here are my notes:
More democratic - number of voters increased allowing greater say in gov. for people; anti-masonic party opened nomination to public; compaigns begin to focus on issues of common man and also begin to appeal to area's majority
Power of presidency - spoils system rewards loyalty to AJ; vetoes the bank/bills; force bill
Optimistic/expansionistic - manifest destiny and indian removal act creates idea of getting more land; jackson supports common man and didn't go to school - creates optimism for common man to rise up "rags to riches" idea
Sectionalism - two party system created; AJ democrat's support State rights - Southern issue; Whigs support Am. System - N and E issue.
Any help would be great, but I'm having most trouble in trying to come up with a thesis that will include all of these things.
Thanks for the help!
