UMM I've decided to not take physics.. APES it is for me. UCLA said that they only require 2 years of lab science- bio and chem. The rest to up to me. And since I'm taking AP CALC next year, I must take a AP science class. AP chem is out of the question.. I had a horrible reg chem teacher. AP Physics sounds scary, I want a relaxed senior yr! APES sounds okkay though... except the passing rates ..

To choose between your courses, you should decide what your goal is. Do you want a class that furthers your understanding of the world; a class that you can pass; or a class that prepares you for your chosen major/college? Pick whatever course you think will further you in whatever your goal is.

By the way, the test is hard, but so is the physics exam, so you probably shouldn't just go by test rates...

Greenlover17,
Some people say the APES test is easy.. that its all common sense.. :\
Have you taken both tests-APES and AP physics?

No, I have not taken both tests. I took the APES exam last year, and I know quite a few people who completed the Physics.

And yes, some of the APES test is common sense, however any test requires a bit of common sense, you know? But you have to know your material, the essay questions require in depth knowledge and complex mathematics- or at least a lot of calculations. Plus the multiple choice features a good deal of questions based on know-how that you gain from the course, not from common sense.

It's a hard test, but for me it was a lot easier than the World History AP. So study, but you can pass without a problem if you are active in the course work from the get-go; pay attention and make connections.

Can't say much on the Physics except that everyone I talked to said the only harder test they ever took was the AP Chem, and I'm not gonna begrudge them that one. I take it Tuesday, and will most likely fail to receive a three, but here's hoping.

Don't worry, APES isn't the hardest test out there, but it is not a breeze.

In my high school career ive taken 7 APs so far
and APES was by far the easiest I have every taken
the material is simple, the majority is about memorizing
and the only reason the scores are so low
is because it is a half year class and no one studies for
it because it was so ridiculously easy. but everyone forgets about it
until the day before (like I am right now) and we are all screwed!
so just review throughout the year and you'll get an easy A with
AP credit and possibly a 5 if you study after the class ends.

=) but i do encourage you to take the class.
its a great experience and you'll learn how to hug some trees.

I have signed up for APES and am really looking forward to taking the class next school year, but like you penguin found it to be a bit ambiguous at first. All the advice I can offer is that no class is unsermountable- as long as one sets aside a few hours with AP Guides a week for in-depth reviewing, tries to keep a chapter ahead of the teacher (not necessary, but extremely helpful), does homework assignments, and pays attention during lessons a well-deserved high AP score is inevitable. For one I've learned my lesson and will no longer procrastinate to study for the APs, whatever subject they may be.
To be honest, the classes with heavy math elements are the ones which truly and sickeningly intimidate me. Physics I will not be able to take until Senior year unfortunately, as I'm taking Honors Chem and APES next year for my sciences, left APChem for Junior and believe it would be near-suicidal to make a combo and add Physics to the mix.
Regarding APES once again, does anyone know of good study resources? I believe that the amount of study guides out there is relatively limited, so any recommendations to me and others taking the class?

Megs you are an idiot. APES is not the easiest AP exam. I am so tried of people calling that class "AP Finger paint" I managed to get a 3 on the test, and yes it was very hard.. I would say the APUSH or AP Lang tests are easier than APES. The practice APES tests make it look ridiculously easy (at least in princeton's) but the actual test is a toughie. If I hadn't done well on the free responses, I would have gotten a 2 no doubt in my mind. Next time, before you start assuming an AP test is easy, get your facts straight.

I think its hard, but it is getting easier. Knowing biology chemistry are helpful, so make sure to take them first.
