Integrals involving ax˛ + bx + c:

In order to solve these type of integrals, complete the square of the quadratic equation, then the previous methods can be used to solve the integrals.

ex.

completing the square of x2 + 4x + 8 gives (x + 2)2 + 4

The integral becomes:

Substitute:
x + 2 = 2 tan
q
dx = 2 sec
q dq

Solve the integral, just like the previous example.
