The 6th edition of the Campbell and Reece Biology text book, is an okay book overall. Each of the chapters goes into good detail, but the problem is that some of the sections go into too much detail. These books are designed for college kids and as one who took the class in high school; some of the information is over my head. The best thing is the online website that goes with the book. This website provides chapter reviews, and the layouts of all the labs used. Some of the information in this book is really not needed. The section on classification is too long and we never went into the section due to the excess amount of information. In order to fully understand this book in its entirely, you need to review it with notes over the sections sitting beside you. The course-notes notes provide a good general overview of everything and help when trying to understand the concepts in this book.
The reviews at the end of each chapter can also help when trying to understand each section. They provide a good general overview of each section and the pages that each concept is talked about. If you want to go into more detail there are question that can help you better understand the concepts. Another good thing is the list of terms in the back. Now I know most textbooks have these, but the definitions are simple and easy to understand. Without these definitions I would not have been able to fully understand everything.
This is one of the better biology textbooks I have ever used and understood. This text book was very helpful for the AP test at the end of the year. Since each of the chapters has a review at the end, I was able to go through these and remember what was in those sections. The course-notes notes that I used were also very beneficial when helping to prepare for the AP test. Overall I would have to give this book a 4/5 stars.
